Gracie Barra Agoura is a common question, as BJJ has specific uniform requirements that differ from other martial arts.

The academy follows a strict “Red Shield” uniform policy to maintain hygiene, safety, and a sense of team unity.

Here is a detailed guide on what to wear for your first day.

1. The Intro Class (Trial Session)

 You Do Not Need to Buy Gear Yet: For your very first introductory class, the academy will provide you with a clean, sanitized loaner Gi (Kimono) and belt. You do not need to purchase anything before you try it out.

 What to Wear Underneath:

     Compression Shorts/Underwear: Wear supportive athletic underwear or compression shorts. Loose boxer shorts can bunch up and be uncomfortable.

     Rash Guard or T-Shirt: Wear a tight-fitting athletic shirt or rash guard. Avoid baggy cotton t-shirts as they can get stretched or caught during drilling.

     Women: A sports bra and compression shorts/leggings under the Gi pants are recommended.

2. Hygiene & Safety (Crucial)

 No Jewelry: Remove all rings, earrings, necklaces, and watches. These can cause injury to you or your partner.

 Trimmed Nails: Fingernails and toenails must be trimmed short to prevent scratching.

 Long Hair: Tie hair back securely with a soft elastic (no metal clips).

 Footwear: You must wear flip-flops or slides when walking from the locker room to the edge of the mat. No bare feet off the mats.

3. Once You Enroll (The Official Uniform)

If you sign up, you must purchase the Official Gracie Barra Uniform.

 The Gi: You cannot wear a generic Gi (e.g., Shoyoroll, Fuji). You must wear the GB-branded Gi with the Red Shield patch.

 Rash Guard: Most students wear the official GB rash guard underneath their Gi for hygiene and comfort.

 No-Gi Gear: For No-Gi classes, you must wear the official GB shorts and ranked rash guard.
